Kate wood with her Leadership in Social Enterprise Award

Social Enterprise firm Your Pets Warehouse is celebrating the announcement that Kate Wood has beaten off stiff competition to win the Leading Wales Award – Leadership in social enterprise award 2011.

The
Leading Wales Awards is the only established, prestigious, pan Wales’ awards that recognise and celebrate individual people in Wales whose leadership makes a real difference. The Leadership in Social Enterprise Award celebrates those leaders who manage social enterprise within Wales.  Kate was one of four finalists in the category, which was a new addition to the awards this year and is sponsored by the Welsh Social Enterprise Coalition (WSEC).  She was praised for her strong leadership skills in driving forward her business that she founded over three years ago when she saw a gap in the market to provide employment opportunities for disabled and excluded young people.

John Bennett, chief executive of the Welsh Social Enterprise Coalition, said; “Today is all about celebrating leaders and in Kate we have a wonderful example.  Excellent leaders are particularly crucial in the social enterprise movement, simply because, by very definition, leaders will take others to places they would not think of going on their own.”

Kate Wood, said; “I am delighted to receive this on behalf of the crew at Your Pets Warehouse. Rhodri Morgan talked about how Wales needs to lead from the front and say “yes we can” more. Having recognition of that means the world to the team. I’d like to thank everyone for their support as we wouldn’t be where we are today without it.”

The Leading Wales Awards www.leadingwalesawards.com is driven forward by a consortium of organisations that passionately believe that good leadership is the key driver to economic success in Wales. The members are: ACCA Wales, Cardiff Business School, CBI Wales, CMI Cymru, Common Purpose, Harding Evans Solicitors, Hilton Cardiff, Learning Pathways Cymru and Wales Council for Voluntary Action.

The other finalists were
Kathryn Williams, Chairman, Dylan’s Den,  Sharon Jones, Director, Crest Co-operative and Steve Garrett, Chair, Riverside Community Market Association (RCMA).

Well done Kate from all the crew and trainee's at the Tonypandy store.
